The Colonnades neighborhood, named for the听Elon literary magazine听first published in 1937, is the place where students from all class years, First-year through Senior,听鈥渃reate connected communities鈥 in our five buildings which surround the geothermal field adjacent to the Koury Business Center.

The EcoVillage听is also managed by the Colonnades Neighborhood Office.

    • Bed lofting: We recommend students use bed rails for lofted and bunked beds. Bed rails and lofting supplies are available throughout the neighborhoods during move-in day.听AFTER听move-in day, students can submit a FixIt with Facilities Management to have these supplies delivered to their rooms. Bed Rails can be installed whether a bed is lofted or not.
    • All Twin XL Beds can lofted to a max height of 76 inches, a minimum height of 7 inches with 3 inch increments in between. Full beds can be raised to a max height of 36 inches, minimum of 7 inches with 3 inch increments, they cannot be lofted.
    • Students will be responsible for adjusting the height of their bed (raised, lowered, or lofted) and a video of how to do this upon move-in听can be found here under Resident Bed Construction

Programs and Traditions

  • Tea Room:听The legacy of a previous Colonnades Faculty Director, Terry Tomasek, is continued on with our monthly Tea Room event. Now led by our current Faculty Director, Nina Namaste, and Faculty in Residence, Khirey Walker, this event is located in the lobby of Staley and allows students to engage informally with their peers, faculty, and neighborhood community while enjoying coffee, tea, a sweet treat, and board games or activity.
  • Fire pit on the Colonnades Quad:听Once a month, students are invited to make s鈥檓ores at the Colonnades fire pit and engage with their hall mates, RAs and Community Director. There will be opportunities for LLCs to have there own special night at the fire pit, as well as guests from various offices on campus such as SPARKS, Kernodle Center for Civic Life, Sustainability, and Academic Success.
  • Taste of Alamance Supper Club:听By building/ RSVP, residents will have the opportunity to learn about and eat local cuisine (for free), support local businesses within Alamance County, and build rapport with their hall mates and Neighborhood Leadership Team at our once a month Taste of Alamance Supper Club. Restaurants visited 鈥撎鼶ixon鈥檚 Jamaican Taste, Smokehouse Steve鈥檚.
  • Sundae Social:听Previously known as Sundaes on Sunday, this once a month event has now moved to Thursdays from 7:30-9 pm and serves an opportunity for residents to make meaningful relationships and take a study break to enjoy a wide array of ice cream and toppings in the Allen Hall lobby.
