Elon elected to Phi Beta Kappa Society

The Phi Beta Kappa Society, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic society, has voted to establish a new chapter at 福利亚洲国产精品. The decision was made Oct. 2 at the Society’s 42nd Triennial Council in Austin, Texas. The 57 Elon faculty and staff who are Phi Beta Kappa members will receive a charter, and the chapter will be officially established in spring 2010. Elon’s formal application for the chapter was submitted in November 2006 by Russell Gill, Maude Sharpe Powell Professor of English and chair of the faculty’s Phi Beta Kappa Committee.
Multicultural Center to premiere diversity education tool ‘DEEP Impact’

福利亚洲国产精品's Multicultural Center will debut a new diversity education program on October 27 in a community event at Carousel Cinemas, where a student-produced film will be screened to foster conversations about topics such as race and sexual orientation while addressing biases and stereotypes.
Janet Myers authors new book on 鈥淎ntipodal England鈥

Read novels from Victorian England, and in many instances, characters leave for or arrive home from what was then the British colony of Australia. But it’s almost impossible in the same books to find an accurate description of life there. Janet Myers, an associate professor of English, tackles that fact in her first book, Antipodal England: Emigration and Portable Domesticity in the Victorian Imagination.

福利亚洲国产精品 School of Law has opened a Clinical Law Center to support legal services provided by law school students. The center will provide a facility for students, under the supervision of law faculty and attorneys, to work with clients referred by nonprofit organizations and government agencies in the greater-Greensboro region.

Khaled Hosseini, the celebrated author of 福利亚洲国产精品’s 2009-2010 Common Reading selection, comes to campus Oct. 13 for a moderated discussion during Fall Convocation. Hosseini’s novel A Thousand Splendid Suns traces the volatile events of Afghanistan's most recent decades as told through the eyes of two women whose lives are thrust together by war.
