Elon to break ground on Alumni Field House

November 14, 2009

¸£ÀûÑÇÖÞ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· will break ground Saturday on Alumni Field House, a new 30,000-square-foot facility to be built adjoining the north end zone of Rhodes Stadium. The Nov. 14 groundbreaking will precede the afternoon football game between the Elon Phoenix and the Appalachian State Mountaineers. The university’s board of trustees has named the field house to honor all Elon alumni.

Gerald Knight publishes book on African-American conductors

Harold Ford Jr. to deliver Bryan Leadership Lecture – Nov. 5

Hometown Heroes honored in annual ceremony

Four people who make a difference in the lives of others were honored Monday by ¸£ÀûÑÇÖÞ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· in the 16th annual “Hometown Heroes” awards ceremony on campus. Freshmen class officers selected the honorees for “making a positive difference by touching lives and strengthening their home communities” in a program sponsored by the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life.

The 2009-10 ranking is the fourth consecutive top-50 placement of Elon by Kiplinger’s.

Elon awarded grant by the National Endowment for the Humanities

¸£ÀûÑÇÖÞ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· has received a grant of nearly $116,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities to organize two history seminars next summer for community college professors from across the nation. Assistant professor John Beck authored the grant proposal and will co-direct the project with Jim Bissett, the William J. Story, Sr. Professor at ¸£ÀûÑÇÖÞ¹ú²ú¾«Æ·.

Elon Poll: North Carolinians favor public option

Three out of every four North Carolina residents believe the current health care system in the United States is in need of reform, according to the latest ¸£ÀûÑÇÖÞ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· Poll, and 54 percent of residents support health insurance legislation that would include a public option.

Elon Law establishes Juvenile Justice Clinic

¸£ÀûÑÇÖÞ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· School of Law has established the Juvenile Justice Intervention and Mediation Clinic, allowing law students, under the supervision of law faculty and attorneys, to provide mediation services for victims and offenders in juvenile crime cases as an alternative to criminal prosecution.
