The Fulbright U.S. Student Program awards approximately 1,900 grants annually in all fields of study, with recent graduates and graduate students undertaking international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching and primary and secondary teaching worldwide.聽Founded in 1946,聽the Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.
Recipients of Fulbright grants are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields. As semifinalists, these Elon students and alumni have been recommended聽by聽the National Screening Committee of the Institute of International Education聽for final consideration for a Fulbright award. They will be聽notified of their final award status this spring beginning in late March.
Because the status of the 2019-2020 Fulbright programs was made uncertain by COVID-19, students awarded grants for 2019-2020 were encouraged to reapply for the 2020-2021 application cycle. Applications for Fulbright U.S. Student Grants saw a 12 percent increase this year, making it the most competitive application cycle in Fulbright鈥檚 history.
