Qualifying Event for Late Enrollments
You can purchase or change a plan outside of the semesterly enrollment periods if you have a qualifying event. There are many things that can be considered a qualifying events, like: loss of health coverage (losing a job, aging out of your parent’s insurance turning 19 or 26), changes to your household (having a baby, getting married or divorced, death in the family).
To start the process, you will need to provide the Termination/Cancellation documentation to be verified by emailing the documentation to healthinsurance@elon.edu. Once this documentation is verified acceptable to be eligible for a “Qualifying Event”, you will receive instruction for the next steps for the Late Enrollment process. The cost will be prorated based on the number of months/days of coverage needed, which is based on the total semesterly cost. Example, if only 4 months of coverage is needed at the undergraduate rate of $1,966.20, $1,966.20 is divided by 6 (6 months is the total months for semesterly coverage) and the prorated cost will be $327.70 per month. It is billed directly by BCBS on a monthly bank draft.
