TODAY: Elon Analytics Day to focus on impact of analytics in society

Hosted by the Center for Organizational Analytics, the event will include discussions around AI system concerns, such as sociological bias and quality assurance, applications for improving equity and access in hunger relief supply chains, and using analytics for social good.

, hosted by the Center for Organizational Analytics, will explore the role and impact of analytics in society. The free event will be held on March 24 in Lakeside Hall.

Cynthia Rudin will discuss one of the most fundamental and important problems in the field of interpretable machine learning: optimal scoring systems.

Cynthia Rudin, recipient of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence鈥檚 2022 Squirrel AI Award for Artificial Intelligence for the Benefit of Humanity, will kick off the day with a session on interpretable machine learning. Rudin is a professor at Duke University as well as a three-time winner of the INFORMS Innovative Applications in Analytics Award and a fellow of the American Statistical Association, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence. Her work has been featured in news outlets such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and Boston Globe.

The one-day event will also include the following sessions:

    Presented by Patrick Hall, principal scientist at BNH.AI and lead author for the forthcoming book “Machine Learning for High-Risk Applications”

    Presented by Natalia Summerville, senior manager of the Advanced Analytics Center of Excellence at SAS Institute
  • 鈥淚mproving equity and access in hunger relief supply chains: Models for prediction and distribution of uncertain supply鈥
    Presented by Lauren Davis, professor at N.C. A&T State University
  • 鈥淗ow can analytics help non-profits NOW鈥
    A panel discussion with representatives from local nonprofit organizations Mothers Milk Bank, Orange County Animal Shelter, StepUp Durham and Corral Riding Academy

Kevin Trapani, CEO of The Redwoods Group and Martha and Spencer Love School of Business executive-in-residence, will deliver an executive wrap-up at the end of the day.
