The student organization was recognized for its activities during the 2020-21 academic year.
Elon鈥檚 student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) received a 2020-21 Merit Award for providing superior growth and development opportunities to its members.
The SHRM national office evaluated chapters from May 1, 2020, to April 30, 2021, on operations, chapter programming and professional development of members, support of the human resource profession, and SHRM engagement.
鈥淭he members of our SHRM student chapters represent the next generation of HR leaders, and it鈥檚 critical to highlight the instrumental role they play in SHRM鈥檚 success,鈥 said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, SHRM president and CEO. 鈥淭he hard work of Elon students shows the future of the profession is, indeed, in good hands. I applaud their accomplishments and ability to foster innovative programming, development and interest in HR as we navigate changing workplaces.鈥
Throughout the academic year, SHRM Elon virtually participated in career development events and hosted several guest speakers who shared their experiences and advice for pursuing a career in human resources.
鈥淭he guest speakers have been a great resource for members of our club to ask questions and learn a little more about the field of HR as well as expand their professional network,鈥 said Natalie Muir 鈥22, incoming SHRM Elon president. 鈥淲e had some obstacles to overcome through meeting virtually, however, the members of the club continued to put their time and energy into making the club the best it could be under the circumstances we faced.鈥
鈥淚鈥檓 extremely pleased that our student SHRM chapter achieved this recognition from SHRM,鈥 added chapter advisor Associate Professor Brian Lyons. 鈥淓ven in the midst of the pandemic, our student SHRM club persisted by hosting career development events and guest speakers for its members. The executive board鈥檚 engagement in additional Zoom meetings after classes is admirable and reflects their dedication to the HR field. We hope to continue our success this next academic year.鈥
