Call for Papers
We invite papers addressing the themes of the 2027 On the Edge Symposium: Digital Approaches to the Study of Religion, Culture, and Society. To be considered for participation, please use this form to submit your paper abstract, personal details, and other requested materials.
Papers will be selected for their scholarly promise and quality, innovative pedagogical approaches, and complementarity with other papers in the symposium. Proposals should include a 250-word abstract, a 250–500-word statement about the paper’s relationship to the scholar’s research agenda or teaching practice, and a current CV. Final papers should be of such a length that they can be presented or summarized in 20 minutes. Inquiries should be addressed to CSRCS Director Brian K. Pennington at bpennington4@elon.edu.

- Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by October 15, 2026
- Completed papers will be due no later than February 1, 2027
Two nights of lodging and some meals during the symposium will be covered. Limited travel subventions may be available for some presenters upon application. Presenters are expected to circulate papers in advance of the conference with the understanding that select papers will be invited to be revised and submitted for publication as an edited volume or special issues of an appropriate journal.
