Ahead of the Curve with an Accounting Major
When Alison Upton graduated from Elon in 2006, she was already one step ahead. Thanks to Elon鈥檚 150-hour undergraduate program, she met CPA exam requirements without needing a master鈥檚 degree 鈥 a year earlier than most of her peers.
Elon also gave her early access to real-world experience. Before her junior year, Upton completed a co-op with IBM鈥檚 accounting department, an opportunity that made her stand out when applying for competitive internships. That experience led to an internship with KPMG, a full-time offer, and ultimately a career where she is now managing director in the firm鈥檚 Audit practice.
As a student, Upton built connections through Elon鈥檚 Beta Alpha Psi chapter and credits faculty and alumni for helping her explore career options and prepare for the workplace. Today, she serves as chair of Elon鈥檚 Accounting Advisory Board and continues to mentor students.
