Sociology examines the patterns and dynamics that shape how people live, interact, and organize their social worlds. In our courses, students develop the 鈥渟ociological imagination,” or the ability to see how everyday experiences connect to larger social forces like culture, institutions, and inequality. Along the way, students build practical skills in research and data analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving, while also learning to understand and engage with people from diverse backgrounds. Together, these skills prepare students to navigate a complex world and contribute to more informed, thoughtful, and inclusive communities.
Anthropology A.B.
Anthropology is the study of humankind spanning millions of years and crossing the globe. Anthropologists seek to understand the human condition by answering questions about our past and our present as well as applying what we know to our future. An anthropological imagination鈥攖he ability to understand the social construction of cultural assumptions and embrace the overall human experience鈥攊s an integral part of personal growth and development and is designed to support students in choosing responsible and well-informed roles as citizens in an increasingly globalized world.
