Mission Statement
The Phoenix Policy Institute is a student-led, non-partisan organization that produces evidence-based policy research at all levels of government. We seek to provide professional learning experiences for Elon undergraduates of all disciplines and to foster engagement in the policy process among undergraduates.
Meet Our Staff
Katie Carpenter – Social Media
Katie Carpenter is a junior at 福利亚洲国产精品 from Wyckoff, New Jersey. She is majoring in Political Science and Public Policy and minoring in Business聽 Administration. As a Legal Professions Scholar and Presidential Scholar, Katie is passionate about developing her research skills and exploring a career in law. Outside of the Phoenix Policy Institute, Katie is a member of Sigma Kappa and Phi Alpha Delta. Katie is particularly interested in education policy and advocating for policies that create more effective educational systems.
Mar铆a Cassereau – Director
Mar铆a Cassereau is a senior from Mexico City, double majoring in Sociology and Public Policy with minors in French and PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics). On campus, she is a Periclean Scholar, a student coordinator at El Centro, and a Tour Guide. She is currently doing research with the HSS (Human Service Studies) department focused on ALANAM student experiences at Elon.
Ryan Grandison – Social Media / Events & Special Projects
Ryan Grandison is a senior from Atlanta, Georgia, double majoring in International Business and Spanish. Beyond her work with the Phoenix Policy Institute, she spent a year studying abroad in Madrid through Elon’s Program with the International Partnership of Business Schools, and interned in Product Management at LexisNexis Risk Solutions this past summer, supporting the integrity of government healthcare programs. Her policy interests include regulatory compliance, foreign policy, and immigration reform. After graduation, she plans to attend law school to pursue her J.D.
Leila Naganna – Editing Manager
Leila Naganna is a Senior from Carroll County, Maryland, majoring in Public Policy with a minor in Photography. She serves as the Treasurer for the Politics, Philosophy and Economics Society (PPE). Following graduation this spring, she is looking forward to attending law school to聽acquire聽her J.D.
Ashley Ramirez-Martinez – Social Media
Ashley is an Odyssey Scholar and Periclean Scholar at 福利亚洲国产精品 majoring in Biology and Public Policy. She serves as an office assistant in the Office of Admissions, a Student Assessment Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life, and president of Chi Upsilon Sigma. Her primary policy interests center on healthcare and immigration. Additionally, she is a member of the national honor societies Omicron Delta Kappa and Order of Omega.
Isabel Schimpf – Editor
Isabel Schimpff is a sophomore from Jacksonville, FL. She is an Elon Legal Scholar as well as鈥痑 Presidential Scholar聽and is聽pursuing聽a triple major in Political Science, Public Policy, and Art. Outside of the Phoenix Policy聽Institute,聽Isabel is a member of the聽Elon聽Mock Trial team. Isabel’s policy interests include equal opportunity policy, privacy laws, and public health and safety.
Kiley Sherlock – Events & Special Projects / Social Media
Kiley Sherlock is a senior from Louisville, Kentucky, double majoring in Environmental and Sustainability Studies and Public Policy. She is an Intern for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, a College of Arts and Sciences Senator in the Student Government Association, and an Elon Outdoors Trip Leader. Kiley is interested in environmental justice and equitable access to outdoor spaces, with an emphasis on community-led policy solutions. After graduation, Kiley plans to pursue a career in conservation education and outreach.
Ariel Solomon – Web Manager / Editor
Ariel Solomon is a senior International & Global Studies major with an Italian minor. She has completed research in national security studies with the Institute of World Politics and is interested in exploring issues of information warfare, diplomacy studies, policy education, and fostering intra-cultural understanding. After graduating, Ariel seeks to further her experience and education in national security and policy.
