Vernon, a 28-year veteran educator with Alamance-Burlington Schools, was named the 2022 North Carolina Middle School Social Studies Teacher of the Year by the North Carolina Council for the Social Studies at their annual meeting on Thursday, March 3.

The �������޹�����Ʒ Board of Trustees met on Feb. 25 and granted tenure and approved promotions for several faculty members.

Lisa Buchanan, associate professor in the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education, has co-authored a research study in The Social Studies aimed at understanding elementary teacher candidates' knowledge of religious freedom and the Establishment Clause in public school settings.

Lucy Callicott '22 has been named a Provost Scholar for her research in examining elementary educators' awareness and perceptions of trauma-informed teaching approaches.

"Kilimanjaro Millennial Style: The Mountain We Climbed" is the collective effort of 22 students and three Elon faculty and staff members covering their experience climbing Africa's tallest mountain.

To honor their late son Joey, Elon parents Mike and Karen Brocato P’16 have endowed a Teaching Fellows scholarship to support students studying special education. Their gift to the Elon LEADS Campaign will also create a second Teaching Fellows scholarship for students pursuing teaching in a STEM field.

This fall Elon’s “It Takes a Village Project” was able to work with 11 of the 12 Title I elementary schools in the Alamance-Burlington School System thanks to a grant from the Oak Foundation.
