The executive director of Elon News Network will participate in a national reporting project this summer focused on poverty during the pandemic, joining student journalists from across the country.

The report by FOX affiliate WGHP noted that many elements of the inauguration of Joe Biden will be different, but there will also be familiar portions despite changes due to the pandemic and security concerns.

Six Elon faculty from a variety of departments discussed the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol during “Reacting to the Insurrection at the Capitol,” a virtual panel discussion broadcast live to the Elon community on Jan. 15.

The innovative program supported by the grant will immerse students from underserved populations in the study of freedom, citizenship and democracy and culminate in an annual symposium for the public showcasing their work.

On Jan. 14, a multi-department faculty panel will reflect on the political, racial and historical significance of the recent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Watts served as a member of the political science faculty from 1972 to 1986.

The survey of nearly 1,400 adults in the state conducted Dec. 4-6 found that many have concerns about the speed with which the vaccine was developed and potential side effects from the vaccine.
