The second edition of the online Journal of Leadership and the Law, published October 17, includes interviews with accomplished lawyers about leadership in the judiciary and in immigration law, as well as student articles about the Conference on Law and Leadership and the value of interdisciplinary work, multilingualism and receptiveness to effective leadership in the law.

Therese Bartholomew to speak on restorative justice – Oct. 17

On Wednesday, October 17, 2012, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Room 207, Elon Law’s Criminal Law Society, Innocence Project, and Women's Law Society will welcome Therese Bartholomew to speak about her experiences after her brother’s 2003 murder. In 2010, Bartholomew met her brother’s killer in a South Carolina prison, participating in the first victim offender dialogue involving a violent crime in South Carolina’s adult system. The Elon event will include a screening of The Final Gift, a documentary about Bartholomew’s journey. A reception will follow.

2012 Intramural Moot Court champions announced

Fourteen students were selected to join the law school’s Moot Court Board after the Fifth Annual Elon Law Intramural Moot Court Competition. David Lambert and Christian Robin won the final round of the competition held on October 1.

Faith Rivers James publishes “Leadership and Social Justice Lawyering”

Elon Law Professor and Director of Leadership Programs Faith Rivers James authored an article published in the Santa Clara Law Review. In the article, titled, “Leadership and Social Justice Lawyering,” (52 Santa Clara L. Rev. 971 (2012)), Rivers James discusses the role of lawyers in social justice movements and specific case studies, which exemplify the necessary skills to achieve success in various areas of legal practice.

Scott Gaylord publishes on judicial selection in Michigan State Law Review

The most recent addition to Elon Law Professor Scott Gaylord’s scholarly work on judicial selection includes publication in the Michigan State Law Review. The article, titled, “Unconventional Wisdom: The Roberts Court’s Proper Support of Judicial Elections,” (2011 Mich. St. L. Rev. 1521) was published in the law review’s 2011 edition.
