A renowned expert on education psychology and diversity in higher education visited ¸£ÀûÑÇÖÞ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· on Nov. 22 and led a lunchtime discussion with dozens of faculty and staff members on the impact of interactions between professors and students, notably among various demographic groups.

This week’s topic highlights the addition of blogs, wikis, and journals in the new Blackboard Learn. When used together, these tools allow students to collaborate, share information with their classmates, and post private information seen only by the instructor.

The Sustainability Faculty Scholars Program is seeking applicants for the 2011 program, to begin at the start of the spring semester. The Sustainability Faculty Scholars Program will identify, support and recognize faculty who are interested in incorporating or enhancing a focus on sustainable principles and practices in their courses, and exploring a range of pedagogies to develop this theme.

Peter Felten delivered the presidential address at the 35th annual POD Network conference in St. Louis on November 4. Felten’s address explored how current pressures in higher education are changing teaching, learning, and the roles of teaching centers.

The CATL Teaching and Learning Grants program supports innovative teaching and learning projects. We had a record number of applications this year and were able to fund approximately 50 percent of the requests.

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning has named ¸£ÀûÑÇÖÞ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· faculty members Michelle Trim, David Neville and Ketevan Kupatadze as CATL Scholars for 2011-2013. The selection process was highly competitive, with 10 faculty applying for the three positions.

On Oct. 14, Christopher Waters, assistant CIO and director of teaching and learning technologies, and Scott Hildebrand, assistant director of teaching and learning technologies, presented at the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.
