Visions Magazine seeking student submissions

Visions Magazine, Elon’s environmental and sustainability magazine, is looking for students submissions. Examples of submissions include academic papers, reserach projects, photographs, poetry, and book reviews.

This is a great opportunity for any student seeking to get published by a peer-reviewed magazine. The final submission deadline is March 16, 2016. Submissions should be emailed to visionsmagazine@elon.edu.

KCSL: Little Alamance Creek Clean-Up

The City of Burlington Stormwater Division is in need of volunteers to help clean up Little Alamance Creek on Oct. 31 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Volunteers will meet at the Water Sewer Pipe Maintenance Building on 1103 S. Meban St. and then head over to the creek to begin clean-up. Light snacks, beverages, gloves, bags, and safety vests will be provided to volunteers.

KCSL: Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club Fall Festival

The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club is hosting a fall festival on Oct. 27 from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. and will need volunteers to help put on a fun night for the community. Volunteers will help with set-up, games and activities, and working the haunted walkway. If interested, please email bgc@elon.edu or call Sherri Henderson at 336-226-4462.

KCSL: Blessed Sacrament School Oktoberfest

The Blessed Sacrament School will be hosting an Oktoberfest fall festival on Oct. 23 from 5-9 p.m. to raise moeny for the Home and School Association. Oktoberfest will be held at the school at 55 Hillcrest Avenue, Burlington. Volunteers will be helping set up, run, and tear down the fall festival. A quick training session will be offered right before the event. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Lisa Waldmann at wheezerjack@gmail.com.

KCSL: Crossroads Sexual Assault and Response Center Crisis Line Training

Crossroads Sexual Assault and Response Center will be having crisis line training sessions throughout the months of October and November. Crisis line volunteers and trained to handle phone calls and provide support to victims of sexual assault.Training dates include 10/20, 10/22, 10/27, 10/29, 11/3, 11/5, and 11/10. KCSL: St. Andrew's Church Seeking Homework Helpers

St. Andrew’s Church is in need of volunteers for their Homework Helpers program. Volunteers would assist elementary students with homework assignments that include reading, writing and math. Homework Helpers takes place every Tuesday and Thursday at the Parish Hall at 1004 U.S. 70 in Haw River from 4-5 p.m. A brief orientation to the program and its policies will be held prior to the first session of volunteering.

KCSL: Western Alamance High School Seeking Tutors

Students willing to volunteer their time to tutor high school students 1-on-1 are needed at Western Alamance High School. Tutoring is needed during the school day, from 8:10-4:30 in any increment of time. Subjects most needed are all levels of English/literature, math, science, history, and Spanish. Tutoring will take place at the school, located at 1737 N. NC Highway 87. If interested, please email esther_wu@abss.k12.nc.us.

KCSL: Alamance Citizens for a Drug Free Community

Alamance Citizens for a Drug Free Community will be having a tent at the Carousel Festival to get adults to sign a pledge to monitor and secure alcohol in their homes. Volunteers will be needed to get signitures and to engage kids in fun activities while parents are discussing the goals of Alamance Citizens for a Drug Free Community. Volunteers will work 3 hour shifts on Saturday from 10-1, 12:45-3:45, and 3:30-6, and on Sunday from 1-3 and 3-6. Shifts can be flexible to work around volunteer availability. KCSL: American Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness Campaign-Volunteers Needed

The American Red Cross is hosting a Home Fire Preparedness campaign on September 24th from 12pm-5pm to reduce the number of home fire deaths occuring nationwide. Education development will be provided and smoke alarms will be installed or inspected. Volunteers are needed to provide safety information during each home inspection. Volunteers will meet at the Haw River Fire Department, 403 E Main St, Haw River, NC 27258. Lunch will be provided. Please email Anne.Vestal@redcross.org by Tuesday, September 22 to volunteer.

KCSL: LIFESPAN Circle School Seeking Volunteers for Sensory Garden

LIFESPAN Circle School is a non-profit day program for children with and without developmental disabilities. The school is building a sensory garden to help those with developmental disabilities engage their senses of sight, smell, touch, taste and sound. The building will take place on Saturday, September 12, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at LIFESPAN Circle School on 919 Stokes Street in Burlington.
