VanKuiken selected Advisor of the Month in Region /u/news/2007/03/26/vankuiken-selected-advisor-of-the-month-in-region/ Mon, 26 Mar 2007 12:00:00 +0000 /u/news/2007/03/26/vankuiken-selected-advisor-of-the-month-in-region/ Sarah VanKuiken was selected as the South Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls Advisor of the Month for February. Sarah is in her first year at Elon as Assistant Director for Residence Life in North Area.

Here is an excerpt from her nomination letter:

“Sarah truly cares about every person on her Resident Assistant staff. Not only does she bake practically on a weekly basis for staff, she opens up her home to her staff and is always extremely hospitable. Her cheerful and playful nature makes everyone feel at ease, yet she is one of the most professional people on 福利亚洲国产精品’s campus.

“She makes me want to be a part of something that means so much to her. I know that she is passionate about her job, because it shines through every facet of her personality and character. I admire her for her beliefs and values, and she is my mentor and role model. I came into this year unsure of how my advisor would be, and what she would be like. I never imagined that one person could make such a difference in people’s experiences. When I look around our weekly staff meetings, I know that each person looks up to Sarah, and knows that what we see is what we get. What I see is a leader, mentor, and most importantly, a dear friend.”

Make-A-Wish concert nets more than $600 /u/news/2004/04/27/make-a-wish-concert-nets-more-than-600/ Tue, 27 Apr 2004 13:06:00 +0000 /u/news/2004/04/27/make-a-wish-concert-nets-more-than-600/ The Make-A-Wish Come True Concert: A Celebration of Hope was held on Tuesday night, April 20th to support the children of the “Make-a-Wish” Foundation. The event was attended by nearly 200 people, as Elon students showed up to raise over $600 for a great cause.

Many groups helped to make this event possible. Sweet Signatures, the all female acappella group, performed some up-beat and inspiring songs. Twisted Measure also took time out of there busy schedule to perform three of their hits. The Elon Gospel Choir kicked off the night, and they brought down the house with their music of worship and praise.

The event moved many and was sponsored to share the dream of Hope Stout, whose dream was to grant the wishes of all the children in the Make-A-Wish program in the Carolinas. Fox 8 News came out to cover the event at Elon, as the event and Chris Hendricks were featured on last night’s news at 10:30. Chris, along with Evan White and Kevin Kindle, performed and entertained the audience throughout the evening and ended the concert with an amazing accomplishment: Chris, who has cerebral palsy, walked for the first time without any aids or support.

The event was sponsored by Resident Student Association, and was such a success that RSA hopes to make it an annual event in order to continue to support the “Make a Wish” Foundation.
