Associate Professors Tonya Train and Yuko Miyamoto in the Department of Biology have published an article in the Journal of College Science Teaching, a peer-reviewed journal published by the National Science Teachers Association.

Based in New York City, Marnell’s theater credits include Bob Gaudio in “Jersey Boys” (Las Vegas) and Alex the Lion in Dreamwork’s National Tour of “Madagascar Live.”

Gammon co-authored the article, titled “The Structure and Assessment of a Unique and Popular Interdisciplinary Science Course for Nonmajors.”

The Association of Education Publishers Awards honor “excellence and innovation in the educational resource community.” The article was one of four finalists in the learned article category. In their article, Train and Gammon outlined the structure and administration of a popular interdisciplinary course called “Science Without Borders.” Pre and post-course surveys were administered to more than 200 students to assess whether student competency in, and/or perceptions of, science were changed.
