The project essentially provides Belk Library not only with more shelf space but with a collection of government resources that better meets the needs of the library’s patrons as well.

福利亚洲国产精品 launches its first Staff Advisory Council /u/news/2011/10/14/elon-university-launches-its-first-staff-advisory-council/ Fri, 14 Oct 2011 13:23:00 +0000 /u/news/2011/10/14/elon-university-launches-its-first-staff-advisory-council/ In 2009, the Academic Council establishes a task force to investigate a shared governance structure at 福利亚洲国产精品. In 2010, their work coalesces into a shared governance statement:

“福利亚洲国产精品 recognizes that the most effective way of conducting university affairs necessarily entails the active engagement of all of its distinct constituencies; the board of trustees; administrators with faculty rank (with titles ranging from dean to president); teaching faculty; support staff with faculty rank; staff without faculty rank and students.”

Seeing that staff members without faculty rank have little representation in the new shared governance structure, President Lambert calls for the establishment of a Staff Advisory Council. To this end, President Lambert appoints Tom Flood and Mary Morrison as co-chairs of a planning committee tasked with creating 福利亚洲国产精品’s first Staff Advisory Council.

From the fall of 2010 through the spring of 2011, the Planning Committee lays groundwork to make President Lambert’s vision of staff representation a reality. By late April of 2011, the committee is hosting open forum discussions, creating initial guidelines, and preparing to announce the official establishment of 福利亚洲国产精品’s Staff Advisory Council. In late May, during the 2011 staff appreciation day, President Lambert and Tom Flood announce the council and call for nominations. The newly drafted Staff Advisory Council guidelines state that nominees will represent all non-faculty employees through fifteen council seats divided into three constituencies. Those constituencies are Administrative, Office/Support, and Physical Plant.

Throughout June and July of 2011, the planning committee accepts nominees to the new council and hosts the University’s first Staff Advisory Council election. In August, the newly elected council meets to select an executive committee from among its own ranks. They select Tom Flood as the first person to be chair of the new council. Other executive committee members include Fred Melchor (chair-elect), Jay Harper (elections officer), and Zaire McCoy (secretary).

Collectively, the Staff Advisory Council will work to facilitate active and direct communication between staff employees and the President, provide a forum for input and discussion of issues important to the staff, and participate in the Univerity’s shared governance structure. The establishment of the Staff Advisory Council is historic. It highlights 福利亚洲国产精品’s efforts to promote institutional unity while also creating an unprecedented community of scholars. Though the elected representatives on the Staff Advisory Council, non-faculty employees now have a greater role in the University’s decision making process.

Important Computer Virus Information /u/news/2006/01/12/important-computer-virus-information/ Thu, 12 Jan 2006 19:09:00 +0000 /u/news/2006/01/12/important-computer-virus-information/ Computer virus hits campus /u/news/2006/01/12/computer-virus-hits-campus/ Thu, 12 Jan 2006 19:09:00 +0000 /u/news/2006/01/12/computer-virus-hits-campus/ The W32.Sircam.worm@mm virus is still present and active on our campus.

This virus always arrives as a message with an attached file. The message may or may not come to you from someone you know. The attached file can have any name because it is randomly generated from the sending computer.

An easy way to identify this virus is found in the infected message itself. The virus will arrive attached to a message that will always begin with “Hi, how are you?” and end with “See you later. Thanks.” The body of the infected message will vary in content. The message body will read somewhat like this: “I send you this file in order to have your advice,” or “I hope you can help me with this file that I send,” or “I hope you like the file that I send to you,” or even “this is the file with the information that you ask for.”

Just delete the message and you will not be infected. You cannot be infected as long as you do not open the attached file. Just viewing the e-mail message without opening the attachment will not infect your computer.

New Computer Virus on campus. How to avoid it? /u/news/2006/01/12/new-computer-virus-on-campus-how-to-avoid-it/ Thu, 12 Jan 2006 19:09:00 +0000 /u/news/2006/01/12/new-computer-virus-on-campus-how-to-avoid-it/ There is a new computer virus attacking computers. It is called W32/Myparty@MM.

It arrives in a message with the subject line of “new photos from my party!”.

The message body reads:

“Hello!

My party… It was absolutely amazing! I have attached my web page with new photos! If you can please make color prints of my photos. Thanks!”

The attached file is “www.myparty.yahoo.com”

Do not open this attachment.

The virus is basically another sircam in that it infects your computer merely to use it as a base to infect other computers.

Elon Students with questions or concerns about this virus should contact Elon Student Computer Services at (336) 278-5100.

New computer virus: friendgreetings.com /u/news/2006/01/12/new-computer-virus-friendgreetings-com/ Thu, 12 Jan 2006 19:09:00 +0000 /u/news/2006/01/12/new-computer-virus-friendgreetings-com/ There is another Virus making its way around. This one is called the “Friend Greeting” virus. Since the user is required to
actually download and install a program plus accept a License Agreement McAfee does not define it as a virus.

Details:

Users may receive a message with a subject line of X you have an E-Card from Y. (X= your name and Y=sender’s name.)

The message body includes a link to www.friendgreetings.com. If the user decides to follow the link and load the page they are
prompted to download and run an installer package. During installation, the user will be prompted to accept two License
Agreements. The wording of the second agreement actually tells the user what the program will do once it is installed.

It reads:

Once this agreement has been accepted, the program emails all users in your Outlook Address book with the following
message:

Subject: %Recipient% you have an E-Card from %Sender%.

Body: Greetings!

%sender% has sent you an E-Card — a virtual postcard from FriendGreetings.com.

You can pickup your E-Card at the FriendGreetings.com by clicking on the link below.

http://www.friendgreetings.com/pickup/pickup.aspx?code=%recipient%&id=%code%

Message:

————————————————————————

%Recipient%,

I sent you a greeting card. Please pick it up.

%Sender%

————————————————————————

This one is an easy one to avoid.

Beware of messages about greeting cards.

Stay away from the website www.friendgreetings.com.

Do not download the program.

Do not accept the License Agreement.

This virus does not cause loss of data. It is a spam generating virus. Its target is to clog e-mail systems with millions of
messages. In this case it is also intended to be an advertising tool for Cytron e-greeting. If you choose you may read more here:

“Sobig” virus floods Elon e-mail /u/news/2003/08/19/sobig-virus-floods-elon-e-mail/ Tue, 19 Aug 2003 21:16:00 +0000 /u/news/2003/08/19/sobig-virus-floods-elon-e-mail/ Tuesday August 19th wsa the day for Viruses at Elon. Many users recieved scores of messages that were the results of a virus called “Sobig”

“Sobig” is another spamming e-mail
worm designed to flood networks with traffic.

Please keep in mind that any time you receive a message with an attachment called “Replaced Infected File.txt” This is the result of the e-mail server catching and stripping a virus away before it gets to your local machine.

Because of this stripping of the virus you do not receive the actual virus. All you get is a harmless shell of the original virus. At about 3:00pm Tuesday August 8th, Elon Sytems Administrators discovered a way to block even the shell from getting to the mailboxes. Hopefully this change will stem the flow of unwanted e-mail to the user’s boxes.
