LINCS Program – Loaves and Fishes /u/news/2008/04/14/lincs-program-loaves-and-fishes/ Mon, 14 Apr 2008 18:16:00 +0000 /u/news/2008/04/14/lincs-program-loaves-and-fishes/ 福利亚洲国产精品 and Loaves and Fishes have been partners in the community for 8 years, and countless student groups have personally volunteered time at Loaves and Fishes as well as coordinated food drives in the local community.
Loaves & Fishes is a food ministry that provides groceries to food insecure families in Alamance and surrounding counties.  The ministry distributes donations of food from the local community to those families who do not have enough food.  When local donations are insufficient to meet demand, the ministry buys food at wholesale or less from the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, located in Winston-Salem. In the Fall Loaves and Fished will embark on a new facet of partnership with Elon, Loaves and Fishes will be recieving a LINCS student from the University to coordinate all of Elon’s volunteers.

LINCS Program – Cummings High School /u/news/2008/04/14/lincs-program-cummings-high-school/ Mon, 14 Apr 2008 18:15:00 +0000 /u/news/2008/04/14/lincs-program-cummings-high-school/ Cummings High School and 福利亚洲国产精品 will be entering it’s third year of partnership in the fall of 2008.  Elon works to support Cummings and its students with tutoring and other volunteer based support.
 
Many high school’s need tutors and volunteers but unlike many High Schools, Cummings students are faced with different disadvantages, 66% of Cummings’ students enter the ninth grade below the ninth grade reading level, 30% of Cummings’ student are ESL, and 80% of students are on free or reduced lunch.
Cummings High School is in need of a student volunteer coordinator to work with volunteers for all high School level course material.

LINCS Program – Possitive Attitude Youth Center /u/news/2008/04/14/lincs-program-possitive-attitude-youth-center/ Mon, 14 Apr 2008 18:15:00 +0000 /u/news/2008/04/14/lincs-program-possitive-attitude-youth-center/ Positive Attitude Youth Center has been a partner with 福利亚洲国产精品 for over 6 years and is active in working with Elon’s volunteers and Academic Service-Learning classes.

PAYC is an afterschool program for low-income families and serves hundreds of families per year. PAYC tutors 55 students per day in reading and other course material, children or picked up from 8 different schools, Children at PAYC come from many backgrounds including: The Homeless Shelter, Abused Wives Home, and other social services.

Positive Attitude Youth Center is in need of a student volunteer coordinator to work with volunteers from Elon courses and other opportunities.

LINCS Position – Family Abuse Services /u/news/2008/04/14/lincs-position-family-abuse-services/ Mon, 14 Apr 2008 18:14:00 +0000 /u/news/2008/04/14/lincs-position-family-abuse-services/ Family Abuse Services is a local non-profit organization that assists vicitims of domestic abuse by administering court processes and paper work, providing Crisis Line support, and a a shelter and transitional housing for abused women, men and children. 
 
Family Abuse Services also facilitates an awareness program in local elementary schools (via puppet show) in order to create a space where children can seek guidance if they are in abusive situations.
 
Family Abuse Services works with dozens of volunteers to run their programs and need an active student volunteer coordinator.
