DanceWorks Student Choreography Concert: April 3, 4 and 5

DanceWorks, the student run dance performance, choreography and technical organization is having their annual Student Choreography Concert April 3-5. The show is completely student run in every aspect. It’s going to be an amazing show!

Showtimes are as follows:

Sunday, April 3rd 6:00 and 8:00
Monday, April 4th 6:00 and 8:00
Tuesday, April 5th 6:00 and 8:00

The BlackBox will fill up quickly so please come early!

Admission by donation.

DanceWorks General Body Meeting – March 17

DanceWorks is having a spring general body meeting on Thursday at 9 p.m. in the Hearth Lounge in Moseley Center (fireside area). Please come to the meeting if you’re a DanceWorks member or if you would like to become a member.

We’re discussing the upcoming show, upcoming elections and other events in the spring. It will be extremely informational so please come by!

Senior Thesis Dance Concert – Feb. 24-27

The Senior BFA Dance Major Class of 2011 is having their Senior Thesis Dance Concert February 24-27 in the BlackBox Theater. The eight senior dance majors will present 10 different works that showcase their performance and choreography skills. This concert is the culmination of their dance careers at Elon.

Show times are as follows:

Thursday, February 24 – 6:30 p.m.
Friday, February 25 – 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, February 26 – 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.**
Sunday, February 27 – 2 p.m.

**The Saturday, February 26th show at 6:30 p.m. will have extremely limited seating.

Free admission. Limited seating, please come early. See you there!

DanceWorks–Michelle Gibson Afro Fusion Master Class

DanceWorks is hosting an Afro Fusion master class by Michelle Gibson on Friday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. in Center for the Arts Studio A. Please come and enjoy this fabulous class that blends African and Modern dance styles.

So You Think You Can Dance: Elon Edition on Jan. 8

DanceWorks is having our second annual So You Think You Can Dance event on Saturday, Jan. 8th at 7:30pm in Whitley Auditorium. Will you be Elon’s Favorite Dancer? Details below.

Auditions to be a contestant in the competition will be on Jan. 8th at 7:30 p.m. in Whitley. Dancers must register at the door, pay a $2.00 audition fee and come with a 30-60 second solo in the genre of their choice to be danced in front of three judges. Cuts will then be made to determine the top 10 dancers are that will advance to the second and final round.

The top 10 dancers selected to advance from Round 1 will choose another top 10 dancer out of a hat to be his or hers performance partner for Round 2. In the time between rounds the pairs will choreograph a duet to a genre they choose to be performed in the finale on Jan. 22 at 7:30pm in Whitley. Each contestant will also have to prepare a new 30-second solo in his or her signature style. Elon’s Favorite Dancer will then be chosen by the judges and audience vote. Their grand prize is a SOLO in our DanceWorks concert in April and a DanceWorks tshirt or sweatshirt with their Elon’s Favorite Dancer title on it.

While audience members are welcome to observe the audition process during Round 1, everyone from the Elon community is highly encouraged to attend Round 2, the finale show, since they will vote to decide who wins the title of Elon’s Favorite Dancer. Audience admission is $2.00.

PLEASE consider auditioning! If you don’t have time to choreograph a solo, feel free to try out your improv skills. This is a great performance and choreography opportunity with minimal time commitment. Can’t wait to see what everyone brings to the table!!

DanceWorks and Elon’s Finest hip hop class

Elon’s Finest choreographer Stephanie Robinson will be teaching a hip hop class for DanceWorks on Friday, Nov. 5. It will be from 4-5 p.m. in Studio B in the Center for the Arts. There is no charge for this class. DanceWorks members and non members alike are welcome to the class.

Heather Parcells Broadway Master Class – Feb. 19

Broadway dancer and teacher Heather Parcells will be teaching a master class in music theater style for DanceWorks members and non-members on February 19 at 7:30 in Center for the Arts Studio A. The class is $5 for members and $10 for non members. Bring heels if you have them!

Elon DanceWorks’ Master Class with Kate Jablonski – Nov. 6

Elon DanceWorks will be having a master class with renowned choreographer Kate Jablonski on Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. in Center for the Arts Studio A. She will be teaching a contemporary class for all who wish to attend. DanceWorks members pay $5 and non-members pay $10. Please consider attending. This is an event you don’t want to miss.
