Exiled by her family and rejected by an ex, 17-year-old Spazz has no one to lean on for support. But when Spazz falls in love again and summons up the courage to become Cole, a strong-willed trans man, his candid humor and steadfast, all-inclusive Christian beliefs counter the bigotry he experiences daily.

This intimate documentary reveals rebirth and courage within America’s deeply conservative Bible Belt. Executive produced by LGBTQ supporter Susan Sarandon and shot by first-time filmmaker Hillevi Loven.

The film will be followed by a group discussion led by Assistant Professor of Anthropology Muriel Vernon.

Belk Library staff members present at conference /u/news/2015/05/14/belk-library-staff-members-present-at-conference/ Thu, 14 May 2015 14:45:00 +0000 /u/news/2015/05/14/belk-library-staff-members-present-at-conference/ Belk Library staff members Chris Benton, Terry Buckley, Jennifer Rivers, Patrick Rudd, and Jennifer Smith presented at the Triad Academic Library Association’s Paraprofessional Conference on Wednesday, May 13 at High Point University.

The panel presentation, “All Hands on Deck: a shared service desk in an academic library,” discussed the staff members’ experiences over the last year as the library transitioned from a reference desk and a circulation desk to one shared service desk. The new shared space is one of many changes in Belk Library related to Elon’s campus-wide initiative to enhance writing across the curriculum and to expand the Writing Center. The panel discussed how the change was implemented, as well as the development of a new staffing plan that resulted in every library staff member sharing the experience of serving library patrons on the new desk.

“12th & Delaware” documentary screening – Feb. 6 /u/news/2012/01/30/12th-delaware-documentary-screening-feb-6/ Mon, 30 Jan 2012 14:33:00 +0000 /u/news/2012/01/30/12th-delaware-documentary-screening-feb-6/ At the corner of 12th and Delaware in Fort Pierce, Fla., a passionate battle rages. On one side of the street sits an abortion clinic. On the other, a pro-life outfit often mistaken for the clinic it seeks to shut down. This Peabody Award winning documentary allows the viewer to draw their own conclusions about this battle where women in need become pawns in a vicious ideological war with no end in sight.

Please come see the screening and stay for a discussion about the topic on Feb. 6 starting at 7 p.m. in the LaRose Digital Theatre of the Koury Business Center.

Co-sponsored by WGS and NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina.
