Debating for Democracy Legislative Proposal contest /u/news/2010/03/02/debating-for-democracy-legislative-proposal-contest/ Tue, 02 Mar 2010 20:29:00 +0000 /u/news/2010/03/02/debating-for-democracy-legislative-proposal-contest/ Debating for Democracy (D4D) is a distinctive campus-based program that represents the mission of Project Pericles.

Students wanting to participate in the National D4D Conference will research, develop, and advocate their opinions and positions on current public policy issues.

Groups and individual students from 福利亚洲国产精品 can participate in the contest by submitting a legislative proposal on current legislation that they they think should change or legislation that they believe should be created.

Five of the strongest letters from 福利亚洲国产精品 will be sent to Project Pericles program director to be judged. The finalist chosen will then be awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City on April 8-9 to present their legislative proposal in front a panel of judges.

Project Pericles will provide a $3,000 award to the students that submits the best letter to an elected official. The five semi-finalist teams will receive a $500 award that can be used to fund advocacy and education activities.

Students must submit their letter to their Project Pericles program director, sociology professor Tom Arcaro, by Wednesday, March 3, 2010. Letters must be delivered in hard copy to Alamance 216-A and also emailed to arcaro@elon.edu. A letter selection committee, chaired by Arcaro, will select the five that will be sent to the national office from Elon.
