This year’s Forum focused on the theme “Teachers and The Great Economic Debate.” Sharing the panel with Tyronna Hooker, director of district and community partnerships for Teach for America in Eastern North Carolina, Crawford addressed the topic of how to recruit and retain good teachers in North Carolina.

The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C., reported on the forum and included observations from Crawford as part of its coverage.

Kinsey Spencer ’11 and Alyssa Brown ’13 engaged the audience with their presentation on the History Study Tour.

Nearly 100 high school seniors and parents attended the Teaching Fellows Open House on Saturday, Feb. 6. Participants enjoyed a musical performance by senior Teaching Fellows, received an overview of scholarship expectations from the Director of Recruitment for the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Office, enjoyed a skit by freshmen Fellows in preparation for regional interviews, and learned more about Elon’s Program from the Teaching Fellows Leadership Team. Other highlights included mini-class demonstrations by education faculty, break-out sessions for exploring majors with faculty and students, and campus tours. Representatives from the offices of Admissions, Financial Planning, the Multicultural Center, and the School of Education collaborated in planning and hosting this very successful recruiting event.

Glenda Crawford, professor of education, and Dr. David Reilly, retired dean, School of Education, UNC-Greensboro, were invited guest lecturers at Tbilisi State University in the Republic of Georgia recently.

During the week of March 23-27, they delivered a series of seminars on learner-centered pedagogy. The 30 participants included faculty and doctoral students from medicine, business, anthropology, sociology, philosophy, economics, foreign languages, psychology, literature, and the sciences.

Tbilisi State University is involved in accreditation through the Bologna process, a tenet of which is interactive instruction.

福利亚洲国产精品 and Turrentine Middle School students form the Amigos Club /u/news/2008/11/19/elon-university-and-turrentine-middle-school-students-form-the-amigos-club/ Wed, 19 Nov 2008 19:05:00 +0000 /u/news/2008/11/19/elon-university-and-turrentine-middle-school-students-form-the-amigos-club/ Students in April Post’s Spanish conversation classes and Glenda Crawford’s senior capstone seminars are involved with an academic service-learning initiative with young adolescents who are English language learners at Turrentine Middle School in the Alamance-Burlington Schools. 

Supported by a grant from the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL), the Amigos Club is a cross-cultural experience in which Elon students conduct ethnographic inquiry through a series of after-school and weekend social events.

These activities include a visit to campus for a football game, a school beautification service project, and a multicultural family dinner. The research is captured through digital storytelling as a culminating project for the Elon courses.
