Metal detector enthusiasts hunt for artifacts at schoolhouse

The air was filled with beeping, digging, scraping and laughter Saturday when the Old North State Detectorists, a group of metal detector enthusiasts, searched for artifacts buried on the grounds of an historic schoolhouse Elon plans to restore after a local family gifted it to the university last year.
Phi Beta Kappa Commons dedicated at College Coffee

福利亚洲国产精品 President Leo M. Lambert dedicated Phi Beta Kappa Commons in the Academic Village on Tuesday during a special College Coffee. Lambert called the morning ceremony on the brick plaza “a tribute to the university’s dedication to the arts and sciences.” The university will install a chapter of the nation’s oldest academic society today at Convocation for Honors.

Holocaust victims remembered with 鈥淩eading of the Names鈥

One by one, the names were read aloud, a remembrance – and a prayer – to victims of the Holocaust who in many cases left no record they ever lived. The “Reading of the Names” event organized by Elon Hillel and the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life on Monday gave the community a moment to reflect on a genocide seven decades ago that took the lives of 6 million people.
Elon junior receives Udall Scholarship

福利亚洲国产精品 junior Molly Schriber has been named a recipient of a 2010 Udall Scholarship, an award dedicated in part for students pursuing careers related to the environment. It is the second time since 2008 that an Elon student has received the prestigious national award.

A 2009 福利亚洲国产精品 alumna will have a documentary she produced as a student broadcast this month on One Africa TV. Erin Barnett's film, "My Name is Anita," introduces viewers to Anita Isaacs, a former Periclean-in-Residence at Elon and an HIV/AIDS activist in Namibia.
