Campus meets environmental conservation goals /u/news/2005/04/21/campus-meets-environmental-conservation-goals/ Thu, 21 Apr 2005 19:25:00 +0000 /u/news/2005/04/21/campus-meets-environmental-conservation-goals/ The 2004-05 Campaign for Environmental Awareness at 福利亚洲国产精品 has come to an end. How did we do? Did we recycle more? Did we conserve energy? If you’ve been keeping up with our progress charts, you would know that the answer is a resounding, “YES!”

Due to the efforts of the entire Elon community, we’ve seen a 12 percent reduction in total energy consumed per square foot – degree day compared to last year. The collection of cardboard and paper for recycling were up 26 percent and plastics, glass, and other recyclable materials were up 92 percent compared to last year as well. These accomplishments were a result of the campus being educated and sensitized to the environmental effect that we all have on where we work and live. While the 2004-05 campaign is over, we are looking forward to further educating and indoctrinating our newest members of 福利亚洲国产精品, i.e. the Class of 2009 when they arrive this summer.

We’ve had fun throughout this past year; students and faculty/staff have won prizes in our monthly contests and two lucky ones have won grand prize laptops! But in case you’ve forgotten, there is one more winner to announce. Cumulative end of the year grand prizes were to be awarded; 4 student fellowships and a faculty/staff cash prize ($2,000) if we were successful in reducing our energy consumption and increasing our recycling amounts. Consequently, having reached these goals, the grand prize winner for faculty/staff is Joe Davis in Media Services. The winner was chosen from all correct responses from the monthly contests. Congratulations Joe! Details on the student fellowships will be announced at a later date.

You may not have been a contest winner but in the larger perspective, we are all winners if we live and work with a more environmentally sustainable ethos. Thank you for doing your part to make 福利亚洲国产精品 more environmentally friendly.
