Paper Abstract: “As more investors and traders globally manage their own stock portfolio without the help of human brokers, there is an increasing need to acquire and use financial knowledge and financial data analytics to ensure that a self-maintained financial portfolio is soundly managed. There are a growing number of special web portals that provide financial analytics services for investors and traders who demand detailed analyses of stocks and other financial derivatives. The objective of this paper is to examine how end-users value the overall usefulness of various web portals that provide financial analytics services and capabilities. This research endeavors to identify different unique features of financial analytics web portals, and ask users which of these features prove to be highly useful for their needs.”

The Financial Sector increasingly needs ubiquitous applications for trading stocks anywhere anytime. Ameritrade, NASDAQ, Bloomberg, to name a few, have created thin client applications for the iPad, where data/content is pushed through the cloud to display real-time changes in the financial markets, allowing for ubiquitous commerce/computing for financial trading and stock monitoring. The research investigate the readiness for such application from the service provider and the end-user perspective.

Alexander Yap, associate professor of business administration and computing science, and co-author Wonhi Synn, professor of finance, were recently notified that their peer-reviewed book chapter was accepted for publication.  The book chapter titled “Evolution of Online Financial Trading Systems: E-Service Innovations in the Brokerage Sector” will be included in the book entitled “Cases on Managing E-Services”. The book will be published by IGI Global Publishing, a popular outlet for Management Information Systems (MIS) publications.

The book chapter focuses on technology innovations created through e-service bundling provided by different online stock brokers engaged in facilitating electronic transactions through various financial electronic markets. The book chapter discusses how information technology innovations provide better ways to manage the order processes in financial electronic markets; how different software tools and interfaces can help investors and traders make better decisions in their trading activities; and how different  online trading systems help traders comply with S.E.C rules and regulations.

The term of appointment runs from February 2008 to February 2010.
