KCCL: Volunteer Opportunity with Singing Dog Farm, Inc

2-10 Elon volunteers are needed to help with feeding and providing fresh water, exercise, cleaning kennels, socialization, training and grooming of rescue dogs. Help with fundraising events and maintenance projects are needed, as well. Volunteers can pick their own schedule and duties at the farm. Volunteers are asked to complete a brief orientation before beginning. Social distancing? No Problem…. activities are outdoors and indoor space allows for being 6+ feet away from someone else. KCCL: Volunteer with Kopper Top

Kopper Top is looking for student volunteers this semester to help with a number of different tasks, such as working on the farm — helping clean, feed, and water the animals — repairing fences and gates, and assisting with horses and therapeutic riding lessons. A maximum of 15 volunteers is needed every Saturday from 2 to 4 pm. The event location is 6657 Kimesville Rd, NC 27298. Taste of Alamance is a food tasting event hosting 20 vendors, music and some crafts for kids. Student volunteers are needed on Monday, March 30th from 5:00 to 7:30 pm to help clean up after this event. The event will be held in downtown Burlington on E. Front Street. KCSL: Garden Build Day

Common Life Church & Farm is partnered with the local food pantry, S.A.F.E (Southern Alamance Family Empowerment), to build a garden of vegetables, herbs, flowers and pollinators on their property. Their goal is to provide food-insecure members of our community with the opportunity to grow healthy food and enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of gardening. Around 10 volunteers are needed for the Garden Build Day on Saturday, April 4th, 9:00am – 12:00pm at S.A.F.E. (5950 NC-87, Graham, NC 27253). There will be opportunities for volunteers of all ages to help build raised beds and fencing, and lay soil, compost, and mulch to get the garden ready for planting. KCSL: Volunteers needed for weekly teen book club

S.M.A.R.T Club (Sassy Minds All Read Together) is a reading, literacy, and comprehension after school club. 3-5 student volunteers are needed to read and discuss the current book of study. They will need to help the girls (middle and high school) with understanding key vocabulary words and reading comprehension skills. Set up and clean-up of the event space may also be required. No special skills are required of volunteers. This event will take place every Thursday from Feb. 28 to March 19, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 pm at 673-B Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.

KCSL: Volunteers Needed for Herb Festival

The Women’s Resource Center in Alamance County hosts the Herb Festival each year to provide Triad-area gardeners with the highest quality organic herbs, perennials, annuals, heirloom tomato and vegetable plants and specially-selected vendors. Student volunteers are needed to help the festival run as smoothly as possible. The event dates and volunteer shift information are listed below.

Wednesday, April 15, 3:00-5:00pm: basic staging of room, table set-up, and transporting of materials for the event

Thursday, April 16, 8:00am-Noon & Noon-5:00: unloading of plants as the trucks arrive, tagging and placement of plants, table set-up, misc tasks as needed

Friday, April 17, 8:30am-Noon, Noon-3:30pm & 3:30-7:30pm: straighten/replenish plants, assist customers with plants to vehicles, light floor sweeping (someone is bound to drop a pot or two)

Saturday, April 18, 8:30am-Noon, Noon-3:00pm & 3:00-5:00pm: same as Friday along with the start of breaking down of tables and moving materials back to the WRC storage area.

KCSL: Eastlawn Elementary Literacy Boot-camp

Eastlawn Elementary School is seeking volunteers for a literacy boot camp to be hosted for a group of 60 kindergarteners March 16-20, 2020. Previous teaching experience is not required (though that is a definite plus), however volunteers must undergo a background check and the Protection of Minors Training, be of at least 21 years of age, and attend a workshop in early March. Boot-camp sessions would be held from 8:00 AM -1:00 PM each day during the selected week and volunteers (around 6 per day) would be working alongside Eastlawn teachers and staff. KCSL: Volunteer for Burlington City Park’s Haunted Ghost Train

The Burlington Recreation and Parks Department has taken on the Haunted Train this year at Burlington City Park and we are in need of volunteers to help us fulfill the role of spooking the train riders. We are reaching out in hopes of finding volunteers who enjoy dressing up, intense make-up and the opportunity to provide a fun and interactive event for the community. We have partnered with the Hollywood Horror Show to provide the make-up, costumes and layout of the Haunted Train and would love for your organization to be a part of this fun experience. This event will take place on October 24th, October 25th, and October 26th from 6:30-9:00 pm at Burlington City Park. The makeup and costume preparation will begin at 4:00 pm.
