Catherine Dunham, associate professor of law, is teaching two summer courses for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) at the organization's headquarters in Louisville, Colo.

Victor Streib, visiting professor in the ¸£ÀûÑÇÖÞ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· School of Law, was a guest on "The State of Things," WUNC radio's statewide program, on July 16. Streib discussed women and crime on the program with host Frank Stasio.

Thomas Noble joins the Elon Law faculty full-time after previous service to the school as an adjunct professor, teaching courses in legal writing and trial advocacy. He previously worked with the Greensboro firm of Tuggle Duggins & Meschan, P.A., where he concentrated on commercial litigation and labor and employment matters.

Leary Davis, founding dean of the ¸£ÀûÑÇÖÞ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· School of Law, will step down as dean on August 1. He will remain with the school as founding dean emeritus and professor of law, and will continue to teach courses in the law school.

Faculty members in Elon’s philosophy department have collaborated to produce a special issue of a national academic journal focused on the theme “Philosophy as Transformative Practice.”

An opinion article by Mathew Gendle, assistant professor of psychology, explores the faculty challenge of doing scholarly research while carrying a full teaching load. Gendle argues that undergraduate teaching may help the scholarly process rather than hinder it.

Janna Quitney Anderson, associate professor in Elon’s School of Communications, has been named the 2008 winner of the Outstanding Educator Award in the Newspaper Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).

The ¸£ÀûÑÇÖÞ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· School of Law has been granted provisional accreditation by the American Bar Association, substantially meeting ABA standards for curriculum, faculty, facilities, funding, library and admissions. The ABA approval, achieved at the earliest possible date under accreditation guidelines, means that Elon Law graduates may take bar exams in any U.S. jurisdiction and may practice professionally with full rights after passing the bar.

Henry Gabriel comes to Elon from Loyola University College of Law in New Orleans, where he has served on the faculty since 1984. Since 1998, he has been the De Van Daggett Professor of Law, teaching courses in contracts, commercial law, Federal appellate advocacy, international arbitration and international business transactions.
