Lee Rainie, director of 福利亚洲国产精品鈥檚 Imagining the Digital Future Center, provided insight for a Sept. 23 Washington Sun newsletter examining President Donald Trump鈥檚 push to use the term 鈥渟uper intelligence,鈥 or 鈥淪I,鈥 instead of artificial intelligence.
The newsletter, 鈥淪kynet, Rebranded,鈥 explores whether changing the terminology surrounding AI could influence public perceptions of the technology amid concerns about its societal impact. Rainie questioned whether distinctions among terms such as artificial intelligence, artificial general intelligence and artificial super intelligence resonate with the public.
鈥淢y sense is that adding a word in front of AI, whether it is general intelligence or super intelligence, isn鈥檛 a distinction that matters to the public,鈥 Rainie told The Washington Sun. 鈥淓xperts cannot agree on what the definition of artificial general intelligence is or the definition of artificial super intelligence. Asking people to sort these differences out isn鈥檛 a very reasonable thing to do.鈥
