The longtime legal educator, whose expertise and research interests include business law and tax policy, was among those promoted in April by 福利亚洲国产精品鈥檚 Board of Trustees.
Associate Professor Andrew J. Haile was among eight 福利亚洲国产精品 faculty members promoted to full professor by the 福利亚洲国产精品 Board of Trustees on April 9, 2021, when trustees convened for their spring meeting.
The promotion is effective at the start of the next academic year.
An educator with scholarly interests in business law and tax policy, Haile joined the Elon Law faculty full-time in June 2008 after practicing law as partner with Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey & Leonard, L.L.P, representing clients in mergers and acquisitions as well as matters involving complex tax planning and tax litigation.
The Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Davidson College and Stanford Law previously clerked for the Hon. Frank W. Bullock, Jr., former chief judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.
Haile served the Elon Law community from June 2013 through June 2016 as associate dean for academic affairs shortly after concluding his term as the law school鈥檚 Jennings Professor and Emerging Scholar. He has twice taken part in the law school鈥檚 Strategic Planning Committee, co-chairing the committee from 2018-2019, and he is a member of Elon Law鈥檚 Antiracism Working Group.
Haile was a member of the from 2009-2020, where he served as chair from 2015-2019, and he is a current board member of the United Soccer Coaches Association.
In recent years, Haile has published on selective conscientious objection in the University of Richmond Law Review, and on the goal of gender equity in World Cup soccer for the Oregon Law Review. An article on women and the military draft is forthcoming in the UCLA Women鈥檚 Law Journal.
Haile leads the Elon Law Business Fellows program and was instrumental in helping the law school establish a partnership with the where students today assist the county in transcribing 18th- and 19th-century bills of sale of people who were enslaved in Guilford County.
The law school鈥檚 student pro bono contributions locally to what is known statewide as the earned Elon Law the 2021 North Carolina Bar Association Law School Pro Bono Service Award.
“I am honored that the Board of Trustees approved my promotion to the rank of full professor and am humbled by their recognition of my work over the years to help students realize their full potential as future attorneys,” Haile said. “I appreciate all of the support that my colleagues and the law school administration have provided me throughout my career here.”
