Spectrum News 1 report features members of Elon’s Zeta Phi Beta chapter

Members of the Xi Omicron chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. appeared in a recent Spectrum News 1 story about issues facing voters this election season.

A Spectrum News 1 report on a national study about the issues facing voters ahead of the 2020 election featured Elon students and faculty.

Reporter聽Giuli Frendak followed Elon’s聽Xi Omicron chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., as the organization went out into the community to encourage local residents to vote. Elon seniors Alicia Powell and聽Qwai-Zia Pennix discussed the importance of informing the public as the election approaches.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 feel like silence is an option,” said Powell, president of the chapter. “I feel like silence is violence and all votes matter. So I think it鈥檚 so important.鈥

Pennix, who serves as the chapter’s secretary, spoke on聽the impact this election could have on generations of Americans for years to come.

鈥淭his election means so more than just me checking a box,” Pennix said. “This means the security of my future, this means the security of my children, my grandchildren.鈥
