#ElonTBT: A bird’s-eye view of Elon’s campus in 1950, and now

In this edition of #ElonTBT, we uncover aerial footage of campus from 1950 and compare it to the Elon campus of today.

In 1950, Leon Edgar Smith was serving as Elon’s fifth president and had already led the campus through the Great Depression, three fires, World War II, and later, the Korean War.

Under Smith, the campus also continued to expand. Both Trollinger House and Alumni Gym, which was built to honor alumni who died in the world wars, were opened in 1950.

While several of Elon’s key campus buildings already existed 69 years ago, you’ll find in the following video, the university has come a long way since then.
