Samantha Perry ’18 and Cynthia Fair publish Lumen Scholar research in Uganda with international research team

The recent Elon graduate’s research on Village Health Teams was published in BMC Health Services Research.

Research conducted by Samantha Perry ’18 in partnership with Professor Cynthia Fair has been published in the journal BMC Health Services Research.

Perry, an Elon College Fellow, Lumen Scholar聽and human service studies major, collaborated with聽Sahai Burrowes from Touro University, Sarah Jane Holcombe聽from University of California, Berkeley, and Robert Kalyesubula of the University College of Health Sciences, Kampala, Uganda.

Under the mentorship of Cynthia Fair, Watts-Thompson professor and chair of the Department of Public Health Studies, Perry studied how Village Health Team workers in rural Uganda manage their different roles as seek to offer quality care to their own communities. The article titled听“Outsiders, insiders, and intermediaries: Village health teams鈥 negotiation of roles to provide high quality sexual, reproductive and HIV care in Nakaseke, Uganda” was published in聽this month.

Perry is currently completing her master鈥檚 degree in clinical social work at the University of Chicago鈥檚 School of Social Service Administration.
