University of California at San Diego Art History professor Norman Bryson will present a lecture based on his current research, titled “Limited Freedoms: Art in Shanghai in the 1990s” at 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 23 in Yeager Recital Hall, located in the Center for the Arts on the Ʒ campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Bryson previously taught at the Slade School in London and Harvard University. Bryson has written, edited and co-edited more than a dozen books on art history, art criticism and visual culture. His attentions have focused on such diverse topics as 19th-century French painting, 20th-century photography, Japanese art from the 19th century to the present, queer theory, psychoanalysis, and semiotics.
