Brief Biography
I am an Associate Professor of Psychology, a licensed clinical psychologist, and Elon's Faculty Fellow for Wellness and Well-Being. I approach my work as a teacher-scholar-mentor, integrating psychological science, relationship-rich education, and a commitment to human flourishing.
My research focuses broadly on understanding the processes that shape mental health and well-being across adolescence and young adulthood. Much of my scholarship examines how parenting, emotion and self-regulation, social-cognitive processes, and cultural contexts contribute to psychological adjustment. I use longitudinal, cross-cultural, and meta-analytic methods to investigate these questions, with a particular interest in identifying the processes through which relationships and environments influence well-being.
I also have a growing line of methodological research examining how artificial intelligence (AI) can support rigorous psychological research, particularly systematic reviews and meta-analyses. I am interested in how AI can improve the efficiency and quality of research while keeping human judgment, critical thinking, and scientific rigor at the center of the research process.
Undergraduate research mentoring is one of the most meaningful parts of my work. I mentor students pursuing questions related to mental health and well-being, culture, parenting and family relationships, adolescent behavior, and research methodology. I strive to help students develop strong research skills while gaining increasing independence and ownership of questions that matter to them.
My teaching philosophy is similarly grounded in relationships. I strive to create inclusive, relationship-rich learning environments that combine intellectual challenge with compassion, clear structure, meaningful engagement, and attention to student well-being. I want students to think critically about psychological science, connect evidence with lived experiences, and leave my courses able to use what they have learned in meaningful ways beyond the classroom.
